Pure Executive are delighted to be supporting Britten Pears Arts in the appointment of a new Chief Financial Offer due to the retirement of the current CFO this Summer.

Founded in April 2020 following the merger of long-established Britten-Pears Foundation and Snape Maltings, Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based on the Suffolk coast. Ensuring the legacy of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pear’s life and work continues to be enjoyed worldwide, they offer innovative learning and training in music and heritage, opportunities to experience world-class performances and work with freelance musicians and artists to deliver outstanding experiences. Britten and Pears legacy incorporates their attitude, values and belief in helping communities, the disadvantaged in society and those who don’t have access to music and culture. Britten Pears Arts uses music to change and enrich thousands of lives every year, from nurturing young emerging artists to supporting people in challenging conditions, all whilst bringing world-class music to Suffolk.

With responsibility for leading and developing the finance team, the CFO is part of BPA’s wider Leadership team and is accountable for the provision of financial information and analysis to inform strategic, commercial, charitable and operational decision making and planning.  The role combines financial stewardship of the commercial entity – Snape Maltings Trading Limited – with that of the charity, therefore it will be critical for the successful candidate to demonstrate effective stakeholder management skills and the ability to balance the needs of both services. Working in collaboration with the CEO, and the Leadership Team, the CFO will also report to the Board of Trustees (BPA), the Board of Directors (SMTL) and subsidiary groups.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate and contribute at Leadership level to the strategic goals and long-term sustainability of the organisation, whilst ensuring BPA is a rewarding and engaging place to work for all colleagues
  • Lead the finance team to deliver strong financial reporting, decision support, and insightful data, whilst ensuring a robust governance and control framework.
  • Strategic financial planning
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Financial and management reporting
  • Management of professional advisor relationships (auditors, bank, insuance)
  • Financial policies, risk and compliance
  • Tax
  • Oversight of IT provision (currently outsourced)

Aligned to the culture, values and purpose of the organisation the successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a demonstrable track record in financial reporting, planning and analysis together with financial control and experience of inspiring and developing a finance team. It is likely that candidates will have had previous roles working closely with a CEO, leadership team and Board and be able to engage and communicate effectively with financial and non-financial audiences.  The ability to relate well to people, build effective relationships, coach and support the team are also essential. Ideal candidates will have experience gained in both commercial and charitable organisations.

This is a rare opportunity to make a significant contribution to a highly respected and valued organisation, where your financial leadership will help sustain and grow the continued heritage, artistic development and community engagement of BPA. They are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches their organisation. They positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds.
